Industries: Weighing Solutions by Sector

WPL Industries, established in 1994, designs and builds weighing systems and has delivered them to more than 50 countries. Each sector asks something different of a scale. A meat plant needs stainless steel that can be washed down daily and labels that support food information rules. A chemical plant may need equipment for explosive atmospheres and a record of every batch. A filling line needs fast, repeatable weighing linked to valves and PLCs, while a warehouse needs pallet weights, SSCC labels and data that reaches its WMS.

The pages below take each sector in turn. They describe the typical weighing tasks, the rules that shape them and a practical set-up built from WPL scales, indicators and software.

• Food industry: weighing and labelling prepacked food, meat on hooks and rails, and checks on prepackages.
• Chemical industry: recipe weighing, checkweighing and filling, including weighing in hazardous areas.
• Gravimetric filling: filling by weight with fast weighing electronics and links to industrial PCs and PLCs.
• Logistics and warehousing: goods-in weighing, pallet scales, counting for picking and in/out vehicle weighing.
• Custom weighing solutions: systems built on WPL's own indicators, plus livestock, belt, airport luggage and ship weighing on request.

Maritime weighing is WPL's other main field. Motion-compensated scales for fishing, offshore and research vessels are in the marine weighing range, and the applications by vessel type pages describe set-ups for trawlers, factory vessels and research ships. The industrial products are not motion-compensated.
