Heavy weighing on a moving deck
Bins, tubs, pallets and gear are too heavy for a bench scale, but a platform scale on a vessel faces the same physics as any marine scale: deck motion and tilt change the force on the load cells. WPL builds two marine platform series for this work. Both use four load cells and AISI 316 stainless steel, with platforms of 1000×1000, 1200×1200 and 1500×1500 mm and capacities of 600, 1500 and 3000 kg. Higher capacities are available on request.
M5 or M6?
- M5 Series: a flip-up platform that can be raised for cleaning and to free deck space, with compensation for motion, tilt and gravity changes. The M5 is the successor to the WPL M4.
- M6 Series: the economic variant with a fully sealed construction, motion and tilt compensation, compatibility with the R10 indicator and an optional access ramp for rolling loads on and off.
Both series share the same options: RS232, Ethernet, WiFi, USB, Bluetooth LE, battery, WeightControl IOT module, remote displays, relay boards, digital I/O, label printers and report programs. A wall mount is included.
Sizing and installation
Choose the platform for the footprint of your largest container or pallet and the capacity for the heaviest gross load including tare. Logging and control rules
Under EU fisheries control rules, non-automatic weighing instruments used to weigh pallets must have at least an automatic or semi-automatic log of pallet weighings (Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1932, Annex I, Part B, point 5). The WeightControl IOT module logs every weighing automatically; approval of a specific installation is a national matter, explained on the legal metrology hub.
Platform scales are used on factory vessels, trawlers and aquaculture and well boats.

What is the difference between the M5 and M6 platform scales?
Both have four load cells, AISI 316 construction, the same sizes, capacities and options. The M5 platform flips up for cleaning and deck space and compensates for motion, tilt and gravity changes. The M6 is the economic, fully sealed variant with motion and tilt compensation and an optional access ramp.
Which platform size do I need for a pallet?
Measure the footprint of your largest pallet or container and add clearance so the load never rests on the frame or deck. The 1000×1000 mm platform suits smaller bins and tubs; 1200×1200 and 1500×1500 mm platforms take larger loads. All three are available at 600, 1500 and 3000 kg.
Can a platform scale be installed in a small space?
