Description

The WPL App is software for weighing, registering and labelling prepacked food. Printing a label is only part of the job: each pack also needs the right allergen information, a batch number and a date, and boxes and pallets need their own logistics labels. The WPL App brings that together, working with TSC and Zebra label printers and with scales from 1 to 1500 kg. It runs on a single workstation or in the cloud, so it suits a small artisan producer as well as a food packer with several sites.

Label types

  • Item labels, generated automatically per pack, with product name, net weight or unit price, best-before or use-by date, batch number, barcode or QR code, price, the ℮ mark for standardised quantities and the EC identification mark for animal products such as meat, fish and dairy.
  • Top and bottom labels for products with more than one label. The top label carries the consumer information: ingredients with allergens in bold, nutrition information, best-before date, barcode, E numbers, ℮ mark and EC number. The bottom label can hold logistics data such as batch and article codes, and can repeat ingredients, allergens, date, weight and nutrition information, which is useful for transparent packaging.
  • Subtotal labels for boxes, crates and pallets, with total number of packs, total weight, article or PLU code, batch information, production or packing date and pallet or crate number, so nobody has to count by hand.

Food labelling data

The WPL App includes the label fields food labelling commonly requires: ingredients with allergens emphasised, E numbers such as E300 or E621, a best-before or use-by date, the EC identification mark, the ℮ mark and a barcode. It is designed to support labelling under Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011; check the requirements for your products with your authority.

Product management

From one central interface you create and maintain products, set ingredients, allergens and E numbers, and define shelf-life logic per product. Batch numbers are generated automatically, EC numbers and the ℮ mark are added automatically, and label templates can be linked to product groups or customers. Changes take effect straight away across the network or the cloud, and product data can be managed from a PC or tablet through the web interface.

Hardware and deployment

The software exchanges data in real time with industrial label printers from TSC and Zebra, with scanners and operator terminals, and with scales from precision models up to pallet scales in the industrial scales range. It can be installed standalone on a local PC or workstation, or placed in the cloud for central processing across locations, workstations or production units, with one environment for PLUs, layouts, users and reporting. Links to ERP or point-of-sale systems use the API or Excel and CSV import and export. The WPL App suits manual, semi-automatic and automated processes; as a complete workstation it is supplied in the WPL1050 weighing and labelling station.

FAQ

WPL App Weighing and Labelling Software – frequently asked questions

Which printers and scales work with the WPL App?

The WPL App works with industrial label printers from TSC and Zebra and with scales from 1 kg to 1500 kg, from precision scales to pallet scales. It also exchanges data with scanners and operator terminals. Tell us which equipment you already have, so compatibility can be checked before installation.

Can the WPL App print box and pallet labels?

Yes. Next to item labels, the WPL App generates subtotal labels for boxes, crates and pallets. These show the total number of packs, total weight, article or PLU code, batch information, production or packing date and the pallet or crate number, so totals no longer have to be counted by hand.

Does the WPL App cover food labelling rules?

The WPL App includes the label fields food labelling commonly requires, such as ingredients with allergens emphasised, E numbers, best-before or use-by date, EC identification mark, ℮ mark and barcode. It is designed to support labelling under Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011. Check the requirements for your products with your authority.

Can we use the WPL App at several sites?

Yes. Besides a standalone installation on a local PC or workstation, the WPL App is available as a cloud solution. Products, PLUs, label layouts, users and reporting are then managed in one central environment, and changes take effect straight away at every connected location.

Is the WPL App available as a complete workstation?

Yes. The WPL1050 weighing and labelling station combines the WPL App with a 15.6-inch touchscreen and a Zebra ZT610 label printer in a stainless steel column. You can also install the software on your own workstation with compatible printers and scales.
