Description
WeightControl SQC is a statistical quality control module for WeightControl Base, intended for companies that fill prepackages with a stated net quantity. It collects weighings from connected scales, compares them with the set tolerances and keeps the records that show how filling was controlled. SQC is an extension: WeightControl Base must already be installed or be ordered at the same time.
The ℮ mark and Directive 76/211/EEC
The ℮ mark on a prepackage refers to the European rules on prepackaged quantities in Council Directive 76/211/EEC. In plain terms, a packer using the mark has to keep two things under control: the average contents of a batch must not be less than the quantity stated on the pack, and only a small share of packages may be short by more than the tolerable negative error given in the directive. No package may be short by more than twice that tolerance. The packer or importer remains responsible for meeting these requirements; WeightControl SQC is a tool to monitor the filling process and document the checks.
Monitoring during production
- Live monitoring: results are checked continuously, and a warning is given when a weighing falls outside the set tolerance.
- Trend analysis: historical data shows trends and patterns in the filling process, so drift becomes visible early.
- Reports: all weighings are stored automatically and processed into clear reports for audits and inspections.
The SQC screen shows the live weight on a colour bar with the tolerance zones, the sample progress, the mean, the last weighing and the standard deviation. For each session the lot size, batch number, sample size and operator are entered, and the tare method is chosen: a preset tare, non-destructive (weighing empty packaging) or destructive. Keeping fill weights under control also helps limit overfilling; reducing giveaway covers the background.
Scales and integration
SQC can be linked to weighing systems from different manufacturers, so existing equipment can remain in use. It can also be integrated with ERP systems, production software and quality management systems. Typical users are food, chemical, pharmaceutical and packaging companies.
